M.L.E.S. RR OPERATING AND SAFETY RULES

M.L.E.S. requests that all members, guests, visitors and fellow engineers that visit Railroad Park be aware of our rules and safety guidelines. Please respect members equipment , park facilities and help continue to make large scale railroading enjoyable for all.


RAILROAD PARK RULES

1) Do not walk, sit or stand on the track. Stay at least 2 feet away

2) Sit in the center of cars. Keep hands and feet inside cars.

3) Do not stand, lean, or rock while riding cars.

4) Children must be accompanied by an adult.

5) No alcoholic beverages allowed.



M.L.E.S. OPERATING RULES

1) PREFACE

1.1) These safety and operating rules are a guide line for the safe and efficient operation of
        the Milwaukee Light Engineering Society Railroad Division Facilities.

1.2) All members are responsible for the enforcement of these rules.

1.3) All references to M.L.E.S. refers to the Milwaukee Light Engineering Society RR Division.

2) GENERAL

2.1) While in service, the engineer is the final authority as to who may or may not ride his train.

2.2) The owner of Private equipment has the final authority as to who may or may not use his
        equipment.

2.3) Club equipment may be operated by any club member that has been checked out on its
        operation.

3) OPERATION

3.1) All operations must be logged in the M.L.E.S. logbook, maintained at the Station.

3.2) All engines and rolling stock shall conform to BLS Standards.

3.3) All steam locomotives shall have a certificate of boiler inspection issued within
        the last 12 months, showing that a cold hydrostatic pressure test of
        one and one half ( 1 1/2 ) times the normal operating pressure has been performed.
        Certificates from other recognized organizations shall be accepted.

3.4) Maximum axle load shall not exceed 300 pounds (lbs.)

3.5) All trains with more than 2 passenger cars carrying the general public must have a qualified person
         riding in the last car,to oversee the safe operation of the train.

3.6) All trains operating on a given day must make one circuit of the track to check for track
        conditions and equipment operation before hauling the general public.

3.7) All trains are expected to run a safe, yet reasonable speed.

3.8) At least 50 feet must be maintained between trains.

3.9) When approaching a stopped train on the same track, a complete stop must be made
        no less than 50 feet from the rear of the stopped train.
        The train can then advance at a reduced speed.

3.10) When the general public is present any person under the age of 18 that is operating
          equipment must be directly supervised by an adult member.

3.11) For night running a headlight must be on the front of the engine and a red tail light
          must be displayed on the last car.

3.12) All trains shall carry a warning flag or similar device to place between the rails 50 feet
          behind the train in the event the train stops for any reason in an area of restricted visibility.

4) PERSONAL

4.1) The Safety Director or his appointed representative shall be responsible for the
         inspection of right-of-way, safety appliances, locomotives and rolling stock. He is also
        responsible for qualifying operating personal and shall be responsible for the log book.

4.2) The Station Master shall be responsible for the loading and dispatching of trains along
        with the general crowd control when a large number of people are present.
